Sooty, Nick's family' s cat who lived with Nick's parents in northern Tasmania, had to be helped to the Bridge on Saturday. She was very old - around 20 years old - and was having a lot of trouble moving around. When Nick's dad took her to the v-e-t, they found that she had diabetes too. So the hard decision was made to help her to the Bridge.
Even though we will miss Sooty, we can be thankful that she had a very long, happy and adventurous life. She even had her own blog for a little while, which Nick's dad, Peter, helped her to write. Here's a photo of her that was taken in August this year. She's posing in front of her very own house in the courtyard of Nick's parent's place.
And here's a shot of just a part of her extensive territory beyond the courtyard, which she actively traversed and defended right to the end:
And just beyond the bushes in the background...
And just beyond the bushes in the background...
See you at the Bridge someday, Sooty. And big, rumbly purrs of thanks to Peter and Judy for looking after her so well for such a long time. (To read a post I wrote about Sooty last year, click here.)
Cheers,

Pablo, we are really sorry for your loss. It certainly sounds like Sooty had enough fun and love for a dozen lifetimes. And what a territory she had! What a magnificent place to spend your time. We hope the knowledge that Sooty was well cared for and cared about will bring you comfort until you are all reunited at the Bridge.

Pabs, we're really sorry Sooty had to leave for the Bridge. She was a fine example to cats everywhere of how to live your life on your own terms. Our hearts go out to you and to Peter and Judy, as well as to Kate and Nick...Sending our best purrs to you all,

We are sorry that Sooty has gone to The Bridge but she had a wonderful life with all that territory to explore. Purrs to you and to her family.
Pablo, please send my condolences to your family. Sooty was a great kitty and had a great life for sure.
We look forward to meeting her at the Bridge someday.
Wowee! Were we excited to have a visitor all the way from Tasmania? You betcha! We think Tasmanian Devils are soooo cute - too bad they're having some illness problems now. We hope they find a way to cure them.
Thanks, Pablo, for visiting our new bloggy. We think you are one handsome "devil" yerself. (Our lady-slave is kinda Irish - whatever that means).
We're adding you to our "cool cats" list fur shure!
Hope to see you again soon.

It's us again. Sorry for your loss of Sooty. She sounds like a nice, old girl. We had a neighbour-friend who was 20 too. Her name was Shalimar. She was beautiful.

I am so sorry to learn the sad news about Sooty. I remember Sooty's blog, too! Soft purrs to you and all of Sooty's family.
Godspeed, Sooty! You will be missed.
I am purring for Sooty and her family. It's not an easy decision for anyone to make but she is running free across the bridge now.

Pabs we were sorry to hear about Sooty. It is always sad when one of our family has to go, even if they are old and tired. Sounds like Sooty had a great long life, with lots of love and a fantastic back garden.
Sending hugs to you all.

Hello Pablo, we haven't met you before and we wish we could have met you in happier circumstances, but it's still nice to meet you.
Sooty was a beautiful cat and she lived a long life in such a beautiful world there. What an amazing territory to prowl around. We are sorry you lost your friend.
Rumbly purrs to you and Sooty's family

Pabs, am so sorry to hear about the bad news!! 20 years is great life though. I hope to live that long, if only for daddys sake- who else will give him 'rumbling purrs'.
send my sympathies to Nick please.
Pabs, we just heard about Sooty. Please tell Peter & Judy that we are sorry for their loss. Twenty years is a long time, especially for an outside kittie. They must have a huge hole in their lives right now.
ppuurrrrrrrrrrrsss
We're so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Sooty had an amazing and wonderful life.
