A week without Pabs

Pablo's chair...

... and a detail of the beautifully embroidered tea towel
on the chair, made by
our friend Debbie who stayed
with us a few years ago.

Hi everyone,

Well, it's been a week (and a day) since we said goodbye to Pablo.

Life without Pabs has been even harder than I thought it would be.

Everything, everywhere around the house reminds me of him. He had his own 'spots' in pretty much every room (like his chair in the living room, pictured above with all his pillows and blankets gone), and many favourite hangouts in the garden. His absence is painfully palpable. Many tears have been shed.

But I've been so touched by all of the lovely comments that our friends have left on Pablog, and the tributes somecats posted on their own blogs. It's a comfort to me to know that Pabs is being mourned and celebrated all over the world. Thank you all so much... I'll get to each of your blogs to thank you personally. I've helped Pabs write many words of condolence on others' blogs when someone has gone to the bridge... I didn't realise quite how much it meant.

Often when I've thought of Pablo this week, I've thought about the song 'Strangers' by The Kinks. It's a beautiful song. Here are some words from it:

...so we will share this road we walk
And mind our mouths and beware our talk

’til peace we find tell you what I’ll do

All the things I own I will share with you

If I feel tomorrow like I feel today

We’ll take what we want and give the rest away

Strangers on this road we are on

We are not two we are one.

I'm going to wind this blog up in a few weeks, but I've got a few more posts planned before then. Stay tuned!

Cheers,
--Kate

The song is beautiful. We've been thinking of your family a lot over the last week, and send our love.

We miss Pablo so much as well.
It seems so much longer than a week, wow.
We have also been thinking about Pablo, everytime we post on the CB, we see his reepurrter badge, very sad.
He is so missed.

Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Kate,
You have been in our thoughts and prayers all week. I think that's a very fitting song. Pablo was such a great kitty. His absence must be heartbreaking.

A wonderful Cat like Pabs really never goes away, he's always still there, just in the next room, in your heart.

We miss our friend as well. You have been in our thoughts and Hendrix has received many extra snuggles and treats in honor of his friend.

That is a lovely song and fitting to this time.

We have no doubt that you'll feel Pabs checking in on you over the years. We furry family members do that from time to time. My mommy still feels and sees her Bridge woofies occasionally and they passed years ago. She always say "hi sweetie, thanks for checking in, we miss you but are doing OK."

I hope when you wrap up this blog, you don't wrap up keeping in touch. We would be even sadder to lose you too.

Pabs was a very special boy and well loved by many but especially magically by you. We are sure you will still find his spirit there with you and he will never be forgotten. We hope you will leave your blog for Pablo here as a testament to him.

We are missing Pablo too. To see the empty chair brought tears to our eyes again. Mum knows how much you are hurting and how hard it is to say goodbye, but you have all your special memories to cherish. They will help you get through the bad times.

We miss Pabs as well.

You never stop missing your pet after he has left. SS still misses her first dog who died almost 20 years ago.

Sending you our purrs and hugs.

It makes me sad to come here and find Pabs gone. It's been a sad year so far with Gypsy, Pabs and Annie going over the Bridge.

I am hanging in there. Eating a little better but still very skinny and not nearly as active.

Kate, thank you so much for your words about my Annie's passing. Yes, it was obvious to me (and the vet) it was time, but of course that doesn't lessen the grief.

Please know I'm sending you hugs and universal Light...in time, both our hearts' pain will ease. In the meantime....

It's amazing how empty a house feels when a furry has gone.
Even when there are other furries.
