Today is Australia Day.
That means that on this day 219 years ago, the first European settlers landed in Australia (from England, where my mate Faz lives. Hi, Faz!) to start a new colony.
Many people think that's not a reason to celebrate, because the new settlers did some pretty bad things to the original owners of the land. In some ways, it's a day of shame. But I'm not here to argue that case, because 1) I'm a cat; and 2) I've found a reason to celebrate Australia Day...
Proposition 1: The First Fleet came to Australia by ship.
Proposition 2: In the olden days, cats used to work on ships, keeping the mice in line.
Conclusion: Cats came to Australia with the First Fleet.
Which means that today marks the 219th anniversary of cats in Australia! Now THAT'S something to celebrate!
Happy Australia Day!
Cheers,

Happy Australia day!
Yes, sadly the North American natives suffered when the settlers came here, too. But, the important thing is how WE got here...and it's the same way cats came to Australia!
Our good wishes for a happy Australia Day!

Happy Australia Day to you! Our calendar did say that it was "Australia Day" but until we read your blog we didn't know about the 219 years. Very cool about the ships with cats too!

Happy Australia Day!
(Sorry I'm a day late, but I just saw the news this morning, Munich time.)
Congratulations on your long line of auspicious cats in Australia. Myself, I'm a Norwegian Forest Cat, so they tell me. This means that I have descended from the great cats of Norway and am supposed to be wandering in the snow. Ummm... I think I'll stay where it warm for now.
Yaaaayyy! Belated Happy Oz Day Pabs and thanks for the mention about us lot stranded in old blighty.
